There were a few nervous students and teary-eyed parents arriving at Eastridge Community Elementary School this morning, but mostly there were youngsters excited to see their friends, meet their teachers and start the 13-14 school year.
More than 3,800 students went “back to school” July 8 at the Cherry Creek School District’s four track or year-round elementary schools; Dakota Valley, Eastridge, Fox Hollow, Red Hawk Ridge and Village East.
Friendly teachers and staff members greeted students and parents at the door or on the playground and welcomed them to a new year of learning and growing.
In Shannon Bowser’s first grade classroom at Eastridge, students waited patiently and politely as they learned where to put their backpacks and lunch boxes. Then they found their desks and dove right in to their first assignment; coloring a picture of themselves at school.
The rest of the Cherry Creek School District’s nearly 52,000 students will begin school next month. August 12 is the first day of school at the district’s transitional calendar schools; Aspen Crossing, Black Forest Hills, Buffalo Trail, Creekside, Coyote Hills, Pine Ridge – while August 19 is the first day of school for all common calendar schools.
