Eight state lawmakers who represent the Cherry Creek School District met with staff, parents and community members during the district’s 2012 “Breakfast with Our Legislators,” held at the Student Achievement Resource Center on Nov. 28. The annual event is sponsored by the Cherry Creek Community Legislative Network (CCCLN), which is a non-partisan committee promoting awareness of education issues, legislation and the legislative process.
Superintendent Mary Chesley welcomed the legislators, who each gave a brief update on their hopes and goals for the upcoming legislative session, which begins Jan.9. There was frank discussion about the need to revamp the state’s School Finance Act and adequately fund k-12 education, as well as Senate Bill 191, a complex piece of legislation dealing with educator effectiveness.
CCCLN will sponsor and Overview of 2013 Legislative Session on Feb. 13; the annual Day at the Capitol on Mar. 14; and a Legislative Wrap-up on May 8.
