totals are still being tallied, but it’s clear that the 12th Annual
First American State Bank Fitness Festival was a huge success that will benefit
all students in the Cherry Creek School District.
2,400 people registered for the fun, family event, held Sept. 8, which included
the Rocky Vista University 5K Run/Walk and Kaiser Permanente 1K
Fitness Walk. Another 600 people volunteered to cheer on the runners and
walkers, pass out water bottles and goody bags, and man the booths, including
the Silent Auction booths, where one of the most popular items was a painting by local artist Malcolm
Farley of Colorado swimmer and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Missy
snowboarder Chris Klug, who is also a liver transplant recipient, served as
Grand Marshal of the event, which supports for the Community Asset Project
(CAP), a partner of the Cherry Creek School District. CAP provides students in
Cherry Creek Schools with vital programs including drug/alcohol prevention,
suicide prevention and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS).
In the past eleven
years, the First American State Bank Fitness Festival, led by FASB President
Jay Davidson and his wife, Kristina, has raised more than $750,000 for CAP.
