Exceptional educators honored at Distinguished Teacher Reception

Thunder Ridge Middle School groupSome of the best and brightest educators in the Cherry Creek School District were honored for their dedication and outstanding teaching talent during the 2018 Distinguished Teacher Reception. The event, hosted by the Colorado Awards Cherry Creek Chapter, was held March 14 at Grandview High School.

Chapter Chairman Emmett Cruson welcomed past and present honorees and their family and friends to the event. Congratulations and sincere words of thanks were delivered by David Willman, Board of Education president, Scott Kaye and Kasey Ellis, president and vice president of the Cherry Creek Education Association and Kristine Ritter, Parents’ Council president.

Dr. Harry Bull, superintendent of Cherry Creek Schools, told the crowd that as he talked with honorees before the program started, he heard phrases like “team effort,” and “it’s not about me.”

“But it is about you,” Bull said. “It’s about you and your talent and your love for learning and your commitment to the children of Cherry Creek. It really is about you.”

Then principals introduced their schools’ 2018 Distinguished Teachers, describing the innovative ways they engage students, how they hold high expectations for all students, how they support their colleagues and how they develop positive relationships with parents.
