They care for children before and after school. They help students with homework and engage them in fun, entertaining and educational activities in a safe and caring environment. But most of all, they provide parents with peace of mind.
That’s why the Cherry Creek School District is joining with the national AfterSchool Association (NAA) to celebrate the professionals who are the heart of afterschool programs during the first-ever Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, April 25-29, 2016.
“We believe afterschool professionals make a difference in the life of a child,” said Sarah Conley, Extended Child Services Coordinator for Cherry Creek Schools. “We encourage everyone to join us this week in thanking the afterschool professionals in their lives.”
Across the country an estimated 10.2 million children participate in afterschool programs each year. These programs are viewed as much more than just child care. They are widely credited as the way to enhance education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM, literacy, the arts, social and emotional learning, health and wellness and more. With that added demand comes increased responsibility for the 850,000 afterschool professionals working in diverse school and community-based settings throughout the United States.
Before & After School programs are offered at all of the elementary schools in Cherry Creek School District. They provide child care before and after school on regular school days and also offer full-day care for school holidays, non-contact days and school breaks (summer, fall, winter and spring) when enrollment is sufficient.
While attending Before & After School programs, students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including, but not limited to, homework assistance, creative expression, science, technology, indoor/outdoor recreational games, health and fitness, music appreciation, dramatic play, communication skills, cognitive reasoning, building and construction and appreciation of diversity.
Additionally, these programs offer a variety of activities that promote life skills such as teamwork, problem solving, creativity, leadership, sportsmanship and community service. Get more information about Before & After School programs in the Cherry Creek School District here.
