Students from Grandview High School's Colorado Creative Careers Student Association (CCSA) completed a 6-by-10-foot mural for the Aurora restaurant, Bracia, as part of a community service project.
The team of nine students, led by designer Anna Kennedy, worked with Bracia's business owners to complete the sketches and color schemes before painting the mural. The students painted the mural on canvas with acrylic paint in just over four months. The project provided an opportunity for students to work under commission and collaboration, as well as the opportunity to experience the labor of creating and installing a public piece of art.
The mural portrays a group of Polish dancers performing in a town square. The goal of the painting was to create circular movement within the town square that would allow the audience to participate in the dance and movement of the piece. "Bracia" means brothers or brethren in Polish, as the creator of the restaurant worked in partnership with his two siblings to establish the bar and grill.
