CTHS Counseling Department receives recognition for supporting students’ college and career planning

For the second time in two months, the Cherokee Trail High School Counseling Department has been recognized for its outstanding support of students.

On Dec. 15, the CTHS Counseling Department received Honorable Mention for the 4th Annual ICAP Award presented by Colorado Department of Education. ICAP stands for Individual Career and Academic Plan, something every student should have to ensure that they meet high school graduation requirements and to plan for their future after high school. The Annual ICAP Award celebrates schools that demonstrate a meaningful ICAP process within their building.

“When students have a meaningful ICAP experience, they are better informed and equipped to align their high school coursework and experiences with their college and career goals,” said Joi Green, district counseling coordinator for Cherry Creek Schools. “ICAP aligns with our district goals of college and career preparedness and inclusive excellence for all students.”

CTHS Counseling staff with FAFSA AwardJust a few weeks earlier,  the Cherokee Trail High School Counseling Department received the FAFSA Excellence Award from the Colorado Department of Higher Education for the most improved FAFSA completion rate from 2016-17 to 2017-18. As the costs of post-secondary education continue to rise, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) help students and families understand how much federal aid their student may qualify for. Completing the FAFSA helps families make more informed decisions about where their student will attend college.

Congratulations Cherokee Trail Counseling Department!
