Two CCSD elementary schools recognized as model Professional Learning Communities

PLC celebration at High Plains ElementaryHigh Plains and Mountain Vista elementary schools have been nationally recognized as model Professional Learning Communities, an honor that only six schools in the state earned. In fact, only 200 schools in the U.S. and Canada received the designation, which recognizes sustained success in raising student achievement.

PLC groupThe Professional Learning Community (PLC) model is an ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively to achieve better results for the students they serve. They focus on learning, building a collaborative culture and creating a results orientation. The Cherry Creek School District has implemented the PLC model districtwide as a key strategy to reach the district’s goal of inclusive excellence; meeting the needs of all learners and ensuring that all students are prepared for success in college and careers.

“This recognition highlights the Cherry Creek School District’s commitment to collaboration and to meeting the needs of each and every one of our more than 55,000 students,” said Dr. Scott Siegfried, superintendent of Cherry Creek Schools. “It is an acknowledgement that we are heading in the right direction and making progress toward our goal of ensuring that our students graduate with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in higher education, vocational training, military service and the workforce.”

PLC groupThe model PLC designation is presented by Solution Tree and is based on strict criteria, including demonstration of a commitment to PLC concepts, implementation of these concepts for at least three years, and clear evidence of improved student learning over that period. Once measurable results can be seen, the school must explain its practices, structures, and culture and submit its application for consideration by the PLC Review Committee.

Educators in the schools and districts selected for this recognition have shown a sustained commitment to helping all of their students achieve at high levels. They have been willing to alter the structure and culture of the organization to reflect their commitment.

Recognized model PLC schools are listed on allthingsplc.info, where they share implementation strategies, structures, and performance with other educators interested in improving their schools. Tools for team collaboration, articles and research about PLCs, blog posts, and other related resources are also available on the site. The site was developed and is maintained by Solution Tree, a leading provider of educational strategies and tools that improve staff and student performance.
