Smoky Hill High School students and staff members alike think counselor Michelle Kleve is amazing. So they weren’t surprised - but they were excited - when she was named “Counselor of the Month” for February 2015 by the Colorado Council on High School/College Relations (CCHSCR). The group is comprised of Colorado high school counselors and college admission staff who dedicate their time and talents to help students achieve their higher educational goals.
That’s exactly what Kleve does for SHHS students. Bob Kennedy, SHHS post-grad coordinator, wrote the following about Kleve when he nominated her for the award:
“Michelle Kleve does it all. She coordinates our department with great leadership and integrity. She handles all the demands of being an IB counselor. She knows all her students and each of their unique stories. She is admired and respected by our staff and administration. Further, the district counselors and administrators asked her (2 years ago) to be the district counseling coordinator; the first to ever hold that position. Finally, for many years she has trained young and new counselors to the high school profession during her summers, as coordinator of the KOO Workshops. Michelle Kleve is a wonderful person, colleague and mentor. I'm amazed at all she does and the impact she's had on young people and the counseling profession these past 30 years.”
