Graduation Rates in Cherry Creek Schools Continue to Soar

​The Cherry Creek School District graduation rate reached a record high of 90 percent for the class of 2017, a percentage that's significantly higher than the state average of 79 percent. Over a four-year period, the district graduation rate has increased by 3.4 percentage points.

"Across Cherry Creek, our high schools are graduating more students than ever before, and that is a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of teachers, principals, school staff and parents. I am incredibly proud of all that our high school students have accomplished along the journey to graduation," Superintendent Dr. Harry Bull said. "As we continue to focus on innovation and career readiness, our students are gaining the tools, knowledge and real-world experience they need to succeed in life.

"The future is bright for Cherry Creek students," Bull added.

CCSD graduation data.The graduation rates for students of color in Cherry Creek Schools are significantly higher than state averages. For Hispanic students, which make up the second largest subgroup of students in the district, the graduation rate reached 87.7% in 2017, up 9.3 points since 2014. The state average for Hispanic students is 71.1%. The graduation rate for black students, a group that represents the third​-largest subgroup of students in Cherry Creek, reached 86.6% in 2017, up 1.2 points since 2014. The state average for black students is 71.9%. Asian students in Cherry Creek saw a 5.4-percent increase to 96.2%, compared with the state average of 89.8%. Cherry Creek Schools is committed to continuing to work toward the goal of eliminating disparities in graduation rates between student subgroups.

The completion rates for all students who take more than four years to finish high school or take the GED test to receive a certificate exceeded 90% for the first time and increased by more than 3 percentage points since 2014. Completion rates increased for all racial/ethnic groups over the last four years, with the most substantive increases among American Indian students (+22.9%), Asian students (+5.5%), and Hispanic students (+8.1%).

The dropout rate for the Cherry Creek School District was 1.4% in 2017, lower than the state average of 2.3%. The dropout rate is calculated by dividing the number of students who dropped out during the 2016-17 school year by the total number of students who stayed in school and graduated.

Overall, five out of seven Cherry Creek high schools have graduation rates that exceeded 90% in 2017. Since 2014, Overland High School's graduation rate has increased by 10.8 percentage points (77.3% to 88.1%), the largest for all seven high schools.  Smoky Hill and Eaglecrest also made strong gains over the last four years with increases in their graduation rates of more than 4 percentage points. While dropout rates remained stable for most schools from 2014 to 2017, Eaglecrest's dropout rate decreased from 2.3% to 1.0%.
